Worker slashed at popular Greenwich Village diner

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - A longtime busboy at popular Silver Spurs diner in Greenwich Village was slashed in the face Wednesday night.  The worker was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he received 120 stitches and was later released, according to police.

The suspect is believed to be a male teen around 15 to 17 years old. According to investigators, he was soliciting for a basketball team from customers inside the diner when he was asked to leave.

He responded, "I'll be back."

Shortly after, the suspect returned and was being escorted out, again, when he slashed the busboy in the face and ran, according to police.

No arrests have been made, but police say they are searching for a homeless person or panhandler.

He is described as a light skinned black or Hispanic male. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and carried a gym bag with a file folder at the time of the attack.

There have been more than 470 slashings in New York City this year, according to police, compared to 395 for the same time period last year.

In the most recent incident, a cab driver was sliced across one side of his face by a passenger being dropped off in Harlem.
