Woman killed in Brooklyn hit-and-run; driver facing charges

NEW YORK (AP) — Charges are pending against a man accused of hitting and killing a woman with his car, and then causing a chain-reaction crash as he tried to get away.

Police say a 24-year-old man hit an SUV Thursday night in the East New York section of Brooklyn, and then struck a 56-year-old woman as she was trying to get into her minivan.

While the man was trying to flee the scene, police say he hit another minivan, causing a chain-reaction crash. The man then fled on foot. Police later took him into custody.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police have not released her name.

The drivers of three other vehicles involved were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
