Woman accused of stealing $10,000 in lottery tickets

Police on Long Island say a woman who works at a Walmart printed more than $10,000 in lottery tickets for herself without paying.

It happened at the Walmart stor on Hemstead Turnpike in Hempstead.

According to detectives, the loss prevention manager of the store was notified by its corporate office about discrepancies in New York State lottery tickets sales.  The inconsistencies occurred between January 24, 2018 and March 20, 2018.

An investigation determined Latricia Hawkins, 46, was responsible for the shortage.  Hawkins was arrested without incident.

She was charged with grand larceny and arraigned on Wednesday in Hempstead.  No information about a lawyer for Hawkins was immediately available.
