Vegan cooking in Brooklyn

People in Brooklyn are learning to cook vegan meals at Natural Nibbles Cooking School.

In a class on Wednesday night in Fort Greene students worked on three types of homemade pasta sauce.

"The concept is empowering the community with healthy principles," Michael Edwards says. "A lot of people think just you eat grass and leaves, and it’s just so much more than that."

The class is all about teaching people about how to eat vegan and create some healthy eating habits along the way.

About a dozen people showed up for the free class on Wednesday, all for different reasons.

Kristian Balgobin says, "A lot people in my family suffer from diabetes..trying to healthier."

There are a variety of distinctions when you hear the word vegan. In most cases, dietary vegans don’t eat animal products including meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived foods.
