Van crashes into pedestrians near Penn Station
NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Three pedestrians reportedly suffered minor injuries when they were hit by a van near Penn Station. It happened during the Friday afternoon rush hour when the area is filled with commuters rushing into the train station to take trains out of the city.
An initial report was that a floor mat of a van got stuck on a gas pedal and it went onto the sidewalk and into the people at about 5 p.m.. They were all taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police put police tape around the red van that was involved in the accident. 7th Avenue was closed between 34th Street and 30th Street for about an hour while police investigated.
There was a huge police response in the moments after the incident. Highly armed federal and local law enforcement personnel are routinely in that area because of terrorism concerns.
