Trump promises 'day one' report on mysterious NJ drones
Drone detection system activated in NY, Trump weighs in
A special drone detection system is now being deployed in New York state. This comes as authorities continue to investigate several reported drone sightings throughout our area in the last month. President-elect Donald Trump said "the government knows what is happening" when asked about the New Jersey drone mystery during a wide-ranging Monday morning news conference. FOX 5 NY's Lisa Evers has the latest.
NEW JERSEY - Will we soon have an answer about the mysterious drones flying last year over parts of New Jersey? According to previous President Donald Trump statements, a report could be coming as soon as today.
What they're saying:
"I’m going to give you a report on drones about one day into the administration," Trump told a room of Republican governors earlier this month at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Jan. 10. "Because I think it’s ridiculous that they're not telling you about what's going on with the drones."

Trump on NJ drone mystery: 'The government knows what is happening'
President-elect Donald Trump said "the government knows what is happening" when asked about the New Jersey drone mystery during a wide-ranging Monday morning news conference..
Trump took the question from a reporter, even referring to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin about the drones in his state and that "nobody's reporting it."

"That could be us sending drones," Trump said. "I hope that's the case, us doing it and doing research, and maybe they don't want to talk about it from that standpoint."
At the time, Trump said an answer would be coming soon.
"I hope it's not an enemy, but we're going to find out on the 21st, the day after," Trump said. "You have to give me a little time for the inauguration, but shortly there after, we'll give you a report on it. We'll tell you exactly what it is. They know, and it's very strange that they are not talking about it."
Big picture view:
Last month, Trump said "the government knows what is happening" when asked about the mystery during a news conference, which at the time, went against official statements from federal and state authorities who said they don't know why the drones are flying.
The Pentagon had said that the aircraft are not U.S. military drones, and officials have rebuked claims that the drones spotted are a part of a nefarious plot by foreign agents. Trump had insisted the government knew more than they were saying.
The backstory:
Dozens of witnesses reported seeing the drones in New Jersey beginning back in November.

Here's what we know (and don't know) about NJ's drone sightings
Mysterious drone sightings have been reported flying over parts of New Jersey in recent weeks, sparking speculation, concern and questions over who sent them – and why.
At first, they were spotted flying along the Raritan River, but soon sightings were reported statewide, including near the Picatinny Arsenal and over Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. The aircraft were also spotted in coastal areas, as well as other states, like New York.
