Trump video: He’ll 'take a look' at deporting Elon Musk

In the latest in the public fallout between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, the president said Tuesday he would "take a look" at deporting the foreign-born businessman.

The backstory:

President Trump took time to speak with reporters Tuesday morning as he made his way from the White House to Air Force One. 

He’s flying to Florida to visit a new immigration detention site in the Everglades.

What he said:

Around the time mark 4:15, a reporter asked him if he was going to deport Elon Musk. 

"I don’t know, we’ll have to take a look," Trump replied. "We might have to put DOGE on Elon, you know."

"Do you know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon," he continued, before switching topics to Musk’s subsidies with Tesla and electric cars. 

For context:

Musk was born in South Africa in 1971. He became a U.S. citizen through the process of naturalization and reportedly also has Canadian citizenship.  

Trump and Musk falling out

Big picture view:

Trump and Musk were in an alliance earlier this year, with Trump selecting Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, to help cut federal spending. 

But the relationship came to a head in recent weeks when Musk started speaking out against Trump’s big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts, and of those who have voted in favor of it.

What they're saying:

Musk said the legislation would kill jobs and bog down industries. He said he'll start a new political party if the bill passes.

Meanwhile:

The bill passed in the House and is making its way through the Senate this week ahead of Trump’s Fourth of July deadline.
