Trump says he is banning CNN, MSNOW and Politico from White House

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump said Friday that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be barred from the White House, accusing the three news organizations of repeatedly publishing what he described as "fake news."
Trump said the restrictions would take effect immediately and suggested that additional media outlets could face similar bans.

What they're saying:
"I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico" … "from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!," Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social.
President Trump announced the media ban in a post on Truth Social.
He added, "Media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump administration, or the United States of America. Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow."
In the social media announcement, Trump did not provide details on how the ban would be implemented.

Later on Friday, CNN released a statement in response to Trump's decision.
"CNN stands fully behind our White House team and their fair and accurate reporting," CNN wrote. "We have a right under the U.S. Constitution to do that reporting without hindrance or interference from the government. Should the ban which President Trump threatened go ahead, it would be an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right."

The move is the administration’s latest test of constitutional First Amendment protections.
Last year, the president decided to keep the Associated Press journalists from White House coverage following the AP's refusal to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America."

A federal judge in April 2025 ruled the White House must restore the AP's access to presidential spaces. That legal dispute is ongoing.
Trump has previously pursued other legal action against a variety of different outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the BBC.
