Tow truck drivers hold procession for killed driver, Scroggs

Tow truck driver Freddie Scroggs of Westland died in the crash was credited with saving Debbie Blake's life.

A tow truck driver who was killed while helping a woman change a flat tire near Novi was honored Wednesday by fellow drivers in Metro Detroit.

Fred Scroggs stopped to help a woman on the ramp from 275 to 96 in Novi last Thursday. She had a flat and he was there help her get back on the road. That's when another driver crossed the fog line on the ramp and hit Scroggs. He and the other driver were both killed in the accident. The woman with the flat tire was uninjured.

On Wednesday, fellow tow truck drivers honored Scroggs by forming a parade from Westland Mall to the funeral home where Scroggs' services will be held. The procession started at 10:30 with a police escort to the funeral home.

SkyFox was on the scene Wednesday as hundreds of drivers formed the procession in honor of Scroggs and to remind drivers the that requires them to slow down or move over.
