Tiger Woods draws crowds at Bethpage Black
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (FOX 5 NY) - Fans enjoyed sunny skies and all-around perfect weather for Tiger Woods's tee-off at Bethpage Black.
While this year's PGA Championship falls a bit earlier than usual (in May instead of August), Team Tiger says the timing is just right because this tournament comes just one month after his big comeback, a Masters victory at Augusta National Golf Course in Georgia.
More than 200,000 eager fans are expected to attend over the course of this week, many of whom traveled from both near and far, hoping to catch a glimpse of the legend hard at work.
Former Mets third baseman David Wright crossed paths with Tiger and even he was starstruck.
"I've been around some pretty amazing athletes throughout my career," Wright said. "You're in awe when somebody that's that dominant walks by."
Other members of Tiger's entourage think he is off to a rough start but nonetheless, say he knows how to get the crowd going.
