Teen in crash killed on side of road

A vehicular crash followed by a hit-and-run is under investigation by the Nassau County Police Department.

According to police, an 18-year-old girl was driving along the Hempstead Turnpike when her 2018 Jeep was struck by another vehicle. Both drivers pulled over, but when Taranjit K. Paramar got out of the Jeep the other driver struck the teen and fled the scene.

The initial crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on Thursday near Gardiners Lane in Levittown.

The hit-and-run driver was behind the wheel of a red pickup truck that was traveling northbound and then turned eastbound onto Hempstead Turnpike striking Parmar's vehicle, added police.

The driver took off eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

Parmar, of Levittown, suffered trauma to her head and chest. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Nassau County Police are asking anyone with information about the deadly hit-and-run to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. Police say all callers can remain anonymous.
