SUV crushed in collision with school bus
NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - The driver of an SUV was killed when she crashed into the school bus on Long Island Thursday morning.
Jennifer Dowling, 38, of Shirley, New York, was driving a Nissan Armada eastbound on Sunrise Highway Service Road at about 8:25 a.m., Suffolk County Police said. The SUV collided with the back of a school bus that was parked on the shoulder near Washington Avenue in East Patchogue.
EMS brought Dowling to Long Island Medical Center in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the bus, Thomas Noble, 64, of Shirley, was not hurt. No one else was on the bus, police said.
Video from the aftermath of the crash shows that the Nissan Armada was totaled. The vehicle appeared to have been crushed, with broken glass and debris spread nearby.
"Motor Carrier Safety Section officers conducted a safety check on the bus at the scene and the Nissan was impounded for a safety check," police said in a news release.
