Strong winds lash New York area
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Dangerously powerful winds lashed parts of the New York area on Monday, causing property damage and power outages.
The National Weather Service issued high wind warnings and wind advisories for many counties in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut in effect through Monday evening.
Fallen tree limbs caused service disruptions on several subway lines in Brooklyn, according to the MTA.
A tree fell on a house in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
Scaffolding on a building on 133rd Street and Broadway collapsed.
On Sunday, Officials had urged residents to prepare for potentially damaging wind gusts, which could reach 75 mph in western New York and parts of the North Country.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered state agencies to deploy equipment throughout the state so crews can respond quickly to emergencies, the AP reported.
A school district near Buffalo canceled school on Monday because of the risk of disrupted traffic signals and power outages.
