Spotting and reporting child abuse
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has launched Operation C.A.R.E. (Child Abuse Response and Engagement) in response to the latest child abuse tragedy.
Jaden Jordan, 3, of Gravesend is in a coma. His mother's boyfriend has been charged with beating him.
Just two months ago, Zymere Perkins, 6, of Harlem was beaten to death. His mother and her boyfriend are charged.
In both of these cases, someone contacted authorities. But the borough president says the public's obligation doesn't end with a phone call.
Adams says illegal immigrants are often afraid to report child abuse. So the borough president's office is partnering with community groups and houses of worship from all backgrounds and in all languages to get the word out about the signs of abuse and who they can safely call.
