Son identified as assailant in shooting of NY couple

WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a gunman shot his parents in a western New York home before getting into a gunfight with a sheriff's deputy and killing himself.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office identified the gunman on Saturday as Duane Bores Jr.

The sheriff's office says Bores shot his parents in their Wheatfield home on Friday. It says a deputy responding to a 911 call exchanged gunfire with the 25-year-old Bores on the driveway before the son ducked back into the home and shot himself.

The parents were hospitalized in serious condition. The deputy was struck by a bullet in the chest but was wearing a bulletproof vest and wasn't injured.
