Small plane makes emergency landing on beach

A small plane made an emergency landing on the beach at Sunken Meadow State Park in Suffolk County on Friday.

The single-engine Cessna landed upright at about 11:50 a.m. on the sand and only feet from the water.

Two people who were on board were able to walk away uninjured.

The pilot reported engine trouble prior to landing, according to NYS Parks Police.

The plane, which did not appear damaged, is registered out of Farmingdale Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation.

Sunken Meadow State Park is in Smithtown in Suffolk County.
