Shocking video of moment woman slashed in Chelsea
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Police have arrested a Bronx man and charged him in connection with an apparent random attack on a young woman whose face was slashed.
Video of the shocking assault was captured on surveillance camera footage.
The 24-year-old woman from Brooklyn was walking to work in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood around 6 a.m. Wednesday when a man suddenly slashed the left side of her face and fled. She received seven stitches at Bellevue Hospital.
About 12 hours later, authorities say a man who was walking near St. Patrick's Cathedral recognized the suspect from surveillance video he'd seen on television. He called 911 and began to follow the suspect before alerting two mounted police officers.
Karl Bazemore, 41, is in police custody pending arraignment Thursday on charges of felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon. It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer.
The NYPD congratulated the arresting officer via social media.
