School bus crashes into tractor-trailer

A school bus and a tractor-trailer have collided on southbound Route 35 in Middletown, NJ. (FOX 5 NY)

The driver of a school bus that crashed into a tractor-trailer in New Jersey on Friday is expected to recover from her injuries.

Beverly Cerbone, 65, had to be extricated from the bus on southbound Route 35 near New Monmouth Road in Middletown.

She was flown by State Police helicopter to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune. Cerbone suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

SkyFoxHD was  over the scene as firefighters tore away pieces of the bus to remove the trapped driver.

An oxygen mask was placed on Cerbone and she was partially covered with a white sheet before being transported from the scene.

Route 35 was closed for several hours but reopened at about 1 p.m. 

There were no children aboard the school bus when it struck the tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the road, according to police.

The driver of the truck was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Local surveillance camera footage shows him walking away from the scene after the collision.

Middletown Police are asking for the public's help finding the driver.
