Rutgers University student killed in hit and run crash

A Rutgers University student was killed in a hit and run crash in New Jersey days before he was supposed to graduate.

23-year-old Mujahid Henry was hit by a drunk driver while he was on his way home in Linden, New Jersey Friday morning.

Henry, who has been politically active, received a bachelor’s degree from the School of Public Affairs and Administration was set to take part in Rutgers’ commencement ceremony on Sunday.

He also worked with Democrat Phil Murphy’s campaign for New Jersey governor.

Murphy posted on Facebook, mourning the student’s loss. “The Murphy team mourns the loss of a friend and team member, Mujahid Henry, who was killed in a hit-and-run car accident last night at the age of 23. Mujahid, or "Mu" as he was known to friends, was a bright, outstanding worker who was looking forward to utilizing his college degree to make a difference in his community.”

33-year old Eduardo Perez is charged with the death by auto and leaving the scene of an accident, according to prosecutors.
