Robbers beat caretaker at Brooklyn synagogue

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say robbers savagely beat the caretaker of a Brooklyn synagogue after awakening him.

On Sunday, the sixth day of Passover, the 53-year-old man was being treated at a hospital after the pre-dawn attack. Authorities say he had a broken nose and bloodied head and face.

A laptop, a cellphone and the man's wallet with cash and credit cards were stolen at the Chabad Synagogue Beth Menachem Mendel in the Midwood neighborhood. The robbers also took money donated for charity.

The caretaker's name was not immediately released.
