Rifle, bulletproof vest stolen from police cruiser

MILFORD, Conn. (AP) — State police say a semi-automatic rifle and a bulletproof vest have been stolen from a department cruiser.

Trooper Kelly Grant says the cruiser was parked at a trooper's Milford home and was one of several vehicles in the area burglarized early Tuesday morning.

Grant says the burglars smashed the cruiser's windows sometime between midnight and 4:30 a.m. She says they also managed to break into the locked trunk, where the AR-15 rifle and vest were stored.

Several other items were taken from the vehicle's back seat.

She says state police are cooperating with local police, who are investigating.
