Retired priest dies after home-invasion in March
NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - A retired Episcopal priest badly hurt during a home invasion four weeks ago has died, Suffolk County Police Department said.
Rev. Canon Paul Wancura, 87, died of complications related to his wounds Monday, police said. The ongoing case is now a homicide investigation.
Police officers doing a welfare check 3 Oak Tree Lane on Shelter Island on March 19, 2018, found Wancura hurt and needing medical attention. The Suffolk Times reported that his hands were tied and he was lying in between a bed and a bedroom wall.
A Suffolk County police helicopter airlifted Wancura to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment.
Police have not made any arrests.
