Report: Jason Pierre-Paul's finger amputated

Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants had his right index finger amputated just days after suffering a fireworks injury on the Fourth of July, ESPN reported, citing sources.

Pierre-Paul has been in a Florida hospital since the accident. He made the decision to have the amputation so that he could recover faster and return to the football field, the report said.

On Monday, the Associated Press reported that Giants officials were aware of Pierre-Paul injury.

The defensive end was set to play the 2015 season but had not yet signed the tender, the AP reported. That means the team cut pull the offer and let him become a free agent.
