Rapper Kodak Black arrested at U.S. border in New York

The rapper Kodak Black was arrested on weapons and drug charges after crossing into the United States from Canada.

According to New York State Police, Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was in a Cadillac Escalade with temporary California plates when it was stopped for inspection at the Lewiston-Queenston International Bridge by U.S. Border and Customs Protection agents.

Police say that Kapri had marijuana on him.  Police also found a Glock 9mm pistol in the vehicle.

Police say a Porsche was also traveling with the Cadillac with three people inside.  The driver, Jeantony Saintmelus, had two loaded handguns and a third was found in the trunk.

Stetson J. President, 24, of Pompano Beach, Florida and Madarrow D. Smith, 20, of Lauderhill, Florida were both arrested for felony weapons charges.

Bill K. Kapri, 21 of Miramar, Florida and Jeantony Saintmelus, 22 of Lauderhill, Florida both were charged with felony weapons charges and marijuana possession.

They were arraigned in the town of Lewiston Court and remanded to Niagara County Jail on $20,000/$40,000 cash/bond.   When Kodak Black bailed out on Thursday he covered his face with a handful of cash to block cameras.

The four were due to return to Lewiston Court in May 2019.

The rapper was criticized for comments he made to Lauren London after her former partner Nipsey Hussle was murdered.  He said that after she mourned, he wanted to date her.  One L.A. radio station said it would not play his music anymore in response to the comments.

Kodak Black was scheduled to perform two shows Wednesday at the House of Blues in Boston.  The venue announced that the shows were postponed and would be rescheduled.

Black's hits include "Tunnel Vision," ''Wake Up in the City" with Bruno Mars and Gucci Mane, "No Flockin'," and "Zeze," which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100 chart. His last album, 2018's "Dying to Live," debuted at No. 1 on the charts.
