Police detectives in Suffolk County, Long Island, released an image of a puppy thief who targeted a pet shop in Huntington Station this week.

A man stole a 3-month-old Maltese-poodle mix from Selmer's Pet Land at 125 East Jericho Turnpike Monday at about 10:50 a.m., police said. The dog is worth about $2,500.

An image taken from a security camera shows the puppy-napper holding the pooch against his abdomen as he walked out of the store. He headed westbound on Jericho Turnpike and then turned north on Poplar Avenue, police said.

Cops describe the man as black, in his mid- to late-20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a mustache or goatee. He wore gray camouflage pants, a green hooded sweatshirt, and a knit cap, police said.

If you recognize the man in the photo or have seen the dog or know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
