Prosecutor: Mom used disabled girl's funds for liposuction
NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City woman is accused of using her disabled daughter's medical malpractice settlement for liposuction, a tummy tuck and a Disney trip.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown says Megan Mele has been charged with stealing more than $65,000 of her pre-teen daughter's funds.
Brown says a complaint charges her with grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument. If convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison.
The prosecutor says the money also was spent on airline tickets and shopping.
It's unclear if the defendant has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
