Police: Teen shot by friend on Long Island
COPIAGUE, N.Y. (AP) -- Police say charges are pending against an 18-year-old accused of fatally shooting a teenage friend while the two were handling a gun inside a Long Island home.
Suffolk County police say the 18-year-old victim was shot in the chest and died shortly after the Friday afternoon incident.
They say he was shot while he and his friend were handling a firearm near the front door of an apartment on Great Neck Road in Copiague. He died at a local hospital.
Authorities say the teenage suspect owned the gun and called police immediately after the shooting.
Homicide detectives say they are interviewing other people who they believe were also at the shooting scene.
Detectives said charges against the suspect were pending Friday night. The suspect's name wasn't immediately released.
