Video shows suspects crash during getaway after infant’s shooting death | WATCH

Police are searching for a second suspect they say is responsible for the fatal shooting of Kaori Patterson-Moore, a 7-month-old girl, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as new details emerge about the moments before and after the gunfire.

"A life that had barely begun was taken in an instant, " New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Wednesday.

What we know:

Investigators say the two suspects fled the scene on a moped and were involved in a crash just minutes later.

Suspects get in crash during getaway

According to police, the men were riding the wrong way when they collided with an oncoming vehicle near Manhattan Avenue and Siegel Street. Surveillance video shows both suspects being thrown from the moped before getting back on and continuing to flee.

Suspect injured, now in custody

One of the suspects was later taken into custody after seeking medical treatment for injuries.

Police say he is being held on an unrelated charge, and detectives are working to determine his role in the shooting. A second suspect remains at large.

What happened in Williamsburg?

Kaori Patterson-Moore was struck in the head by a stray bullet around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday near Moore Street and Humboldt Street, police said.

Authorities say the infant was not the intended target and believe the shooting may be gang-related.

Police say shooting was gang related

"The male sitting at the rear of the moped can be seen taking out a gun and discharging at least two rounds toward the southwest corner," NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. "On that corner were several adults, as well as two strollers and several children standing nearby. Our seven-month-old victim was sitting inside one of these strollers when she was struck."

According to investigators, the baby’s mother was pushing her in a stroller when the suspects approached. Police say the passenger opened fire toward a group gathered on the corner.

Mother didn't realize baby was struck

The mother ran into a nearby deli to take cover, not realizing her daughter had been hit. Once inside, she saw blood coming from the infant and rushed to get help. The baby’s father drove the child to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Local perspective:

Bystanders nearby said they heard an argument followed by gunfire, with people screaming and running from the scene. The motive has not been determined.

What's next:

No charges have been filed in connection to the shooting as of Thursday morning, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
