Police: Couple left 2 kids in van on 90-degree day

CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. (AP) — State police say a woman and her boyfriend left the woman's two children in a vehicle on a 90-degree day while they shopped at a central New York store.

Troopers say they were called to the Wal-Mart in the Oswego County village of Central Square late Monday afternoon after a passer-by saw a 4-year-old girl sleeping in a van and a 9-year-old boy sweating heavily.

Both children were treated at the scene and released.

Police say the temperature was around 90 degrees at the time and the children had been in the van for about 25 minutes.

Troopers say 29-year-old woman from Central Square and a 26-year-old Syracuse man said they left the kids in the car while they went inside to shop.

Both were charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
