Police: Caretaker left elderly woman in car for hours
ATHENS, Ga. - Police have arrested a caretaker after an elderly woman was left sitting in the back seat of a car for nearly two hours.
Athens-Clarke County Police have charged 46-year-old Athens-resident Tonya Grant with felony neglect.
On Aug. 4, police say they received a tip that the elderly woman was alone in the car with no air conditioning.
Grant claimed she only left the woman in the car for around 10 minutes while she ran inside to get belongings so they could go to the park.
But police say further investigation determined that was a lie.
Officers took Grant into custody over the weekend.
Medics examined the victim and said that her vital signs appeared normal.
