Cold Weather Advisory: Wind chills to dip as low as -5 to -15 degrees in NYC area
NEW YORK CITY - Starting this week into next, a lobe of the polar vortex will descend into the U.S. and bring with it brutally cold temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be as low as -5 to -15 degrees tonight into early Tuesday morning and 0 to -10 degrees Tuesday night into Wednesday morning in our area.
Wind chills during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be in the single digits and low teens Thursday night, the National Weather Service said.

"The snow has moved it away from the tri-state region, but the icy conditions will stick around for days to come," FOX 5 NY's Mike Woods said in a post on X.
The FOX Forecast Center said temperatures will plummet as much as 45 degrees below average in spots, leading to below-zero temperatures across at least 20 states, from the Plains to the Great Lakes and interior Northeast.
"Our temperature drops to about 15 to 20 degrees colder than it was 24 hours ago," FOX 5 NY's Mike Woods said.

Preparations for the cold weather are already underway in New York City. According to New York City Emergency Management, a Cold Weather Alert has been issued and the New York City Department of Public Health declared a Cold Blue.
"Outreach teams will canvass all five boroughs to connect our most vulnerable New Yorkers to shelters," NYCEM said on X. "No one who is homeless and seeking shelter in New York City during a Code Blue will be denied."
