Penn Station overhaul plans

In a few years, the 650,000 passengers who use Penn Station every day will see a new and much improved train station, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The plan includes building a new train hall and retail center across the street at James A. Farley Building, also known as the general post office, which will connect to Penn Station.

Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road will be moved across the street.

The project also includes improving New Jersey Transit and subway lines at Penn Station.

The improvements are aimed at making the station cleaner, less congested, more modern, and safer.

Riders won't see the changes for at least four years with a planned opening in 2020.
