Officials: Man dead after police scuffles in 2 states
NEW CASTLE, Del. (WTXF) - A man who died after shots were fired in a struggle with Delaware police had been shot earlier in the day by a Philadelphia officer, authorities said Thursday.
"They didn't have to kill my son. They didn't have to kill my son."
An emotional Leroy Brown Sr. is trying to find the money to bury his son 28-year-old Leroy Brown Jr.
The Coachman's Manor Apartments in New Castle County, Delaware, is where Brown fought with police and later got shot and killed by an officer. Police say they went there to check on Leroy Brown Jr. who was actually shot a couple hours before by police in Philadelphia. We're told Brown tried to get away when he was killed by the officer in the scuffle.
Just hours before, Philly cops went to check out a call of a man with a gun and say they found Brown trying to pull a woman out of a minivan.
Once cops got there they say Brown threw the van in reverse and dragged an officer who shot Brown the first time after seeing him reach for something under his seat. FOX 29 is told Brown got away, crashed the van with four kids inside and allegedly stole another car that he drove to the encounter in Delaware.
"I'm not going to say he's one of the nicest kids on the block but he have an issue with them," his dad said.
"Some might say that he had put officer's lives at risk. That's what the police may say," FOX 29's Dave Kinchen said.
"He ain't going to put no police officer at risk," his dad explained.
