An off-duty cop is hospitalized with a cut wound Friday night after fending off a mugger in Cunningham Park in Queens, police said. The officer was walking her dog in the park when a woman cam e up behind her and tried to grab the officer's pocketbook, police said.

During a struggle for the bag, the cop felt a slash to her neck. Then the attacker fled on foot, police said. The officer called 911 and described her attacker. A Parks Department employee helped the wounded cop and also described the mugger to police.

Officers searched the park and took a woman into custody for questioning, police said. Cops found a pair of scissors near the scene of the attack, but it is unclear if they were used in the assault.

The wounded officer is listed in stable condition and is expected to recover. She has been with the NYPD for 14 years, police said.
