NYPD harbor unit rescues missing dog

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City police have rescued a missing dog after it was spotted swimming in a Brooklyn waterway.

A 911 caller reported seeing the white German shepherd in Gravesend Bay at 6:30 a.m. on Friday. The NYPD dispatched a harbor unit with two scuba divers who plucked the dog out of the water.

They later learned on a Facebook page about pets lost in Brooklyn that the dog was named Chase and had been missing since Thursday morning. A posting described Chase as having a pink nose and said he is "scared of rain, lightning and thunder."

Dog and owner were reunited later Friday.
