NYPD: Cop shoots gunman in the Bronx

A police officer responding to a shooting in the Bronx shot an armed man Wednesday night, the NYPD said.

Plainclothes officers encountered a man who had apparently just shot someone else at 241 Street and White Plains Road at about 7:45 p.m., police said.

The officers and the suspected gunman exchanged gunfire, the NYPD said. The wounded gunman was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.

The alleged gunman's victim was hospitalized in Jacobi in critical condition, police said.

The officers were not hurt.
