Hours after police released images of a man they say raped a 12-year-old girl in his vehicle in the Bronx, a suspect was arrested and charged.

Carlos Medina, 51, of the Bronx, surrendered to police on Thursday. He brought a lawyer, the NYPD said. Authorities charged Medina with rape, predatory sexual assault, sexual abuse, and more.

Detectives believe that Medina drove up to the girl, who was on Elder Avenue in the Soundview section, at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, and lured her into a black SUV. He then drove her to the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx and raped her, police said.

The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. She was listed in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
