NJ Transit bus hits tree in Newark

More than two dozen people were hurt Monday afternoon when a New Jersey Transit bus slammed into a tree on Lyons Avenue near the intersection of Wainwright Street in Newark, New Jersey.

Witnesses say they heard a loud noise they thought was a truck. They rushed to try to help the injured. The bus driver appears to have hit a tree, crushing the front the New Jersey Transit bus. Newark police say this happened just before 2 p.m.

31 passengers were on the bus at the time. All were taken to local hospitals for treatment and evaluation. All have non-life-threatening injuries. Police say two of the passengers have broken bones.

Newark police are investigating the accident. Cops are trying to figure out exactly what caused the crash and get more information from the bus driver who was also injured when this happened.
