Nissan recalls over 600,000 SUVs due to engine, gear issues, NHTSA says

Nissan is recalling 642,698 Rogue SUVs in the U.S. as part of two separate recalls, over issues that may result in loss of drive power in the vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The agency noted that both problems could increase the risk of a crash.

The auto manufacturer recalled certain model 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles because of potential engine failure due to increased oil temperature and certain model 2024-2025 Rogue vehicles because the electronic throttle body gear assembly may break. 

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials said Nissan's recall affects  323,917 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter variable compression (VC Turbo) engine. The NHTSA recall number for these vehicles is 26V080. Nissan's recall numbers are R25E2 and R25E3.

Separately, the second recall for the 318,781 impacts 2024-2025 Rogue SUVs with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter compression (VC Turbo) engine. Officials said the recall number for these vehicles is 26V081. Nissan's recall numbers are R25E3 and R25E4.

Are repairs available for the recalled Nissan vehicles?

What you can do:

Owners of the 2023-2025 Rogue SUVs can take them to their local dealership where technicians will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes, and test drive the vehicle for free. 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the dealer may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, and replace the engine if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters are expected to be mailed March 27, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261.

Meanwhile, owners of the recalled 2024-2025 Rogue SUVs, dealerships will reprogram the vehicle's Engine Control Module and perform an inspection. NHTSA officials said the service is free, and if an electronic throttle chamber replacement is needed, the dealership will perform the work free of charge.
