Mother and 2 daughters critically injured on Long Island

NEW YORK (AP) — A mother and two daughters have been left critically injured after they were struck by a car on Long Island.

Nassau County police said the accident occurred at 9:48 p.m. Thursday in Hicksville. Police said a 42-year-old mother and her two daughters, ages 11 and 4, were crossing Newbridge/Old Country roads when they were struck by a 2003 Honda Accord.

Police say the 39-year-old driver of the car was traveling south on the road at the time.

Authorities said the victims suffered multiple internal injuries. They say they were taken to a local hospital, where the mother and 4-year-old were listed in critical condition and the 11-year-old was in critical but stable condition.

No charges were brought against the driver. The vehicle was being tested for possible equipment failure.
