Michelle Obama autographs books for fans in New York City

Former first lady Michelle Obama visited New York on Friday as part of her book tour.

She stopped at the Barnes and Noble in Union Square to meet with fans and sign copies of her new memoir "Becoming."

People lined up for hours on Thursday just to get a wristband for the signing. Five-hundred people were lucky enough to get inside.

Some fans said they started crying when they came face to face with the former first lady.

The book is on track to break records. Crown Publishing said that combined hardcover, e-book and audio sales in the United States and Canada topped 2 million copies in the first 15 days of the book's release.
