Michelin-star chef revamping menus at Northwell hospitals

Michelin-star chef Bruno Tison has 40 years of experience at some of the best restaurants in the world, including a Michelin-starred restaurant in France, where he was born, and the Plaza Hotel, where he was executive chef.

Chef Bruno has cooked for royalty, presidents and at the wedding of Donald Trump and his second wife, Marla Maples.

"I wanted to give back something to the community," he said, because after a while the routine gets boring.

Now the French chef is on a new mission. Northwell Health Care System has hired him to revamp the dining experience for its patients. We caught up with him at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital.

Chef Bruno said a lot of hospitals use sodium-filled powders to make broth but he decided to make fresh broths and soups from scratch.

Chef Bruno said that hotel guests and a hospital patients deserve the same care. so he will spend time at all 22 Northwell Health hospitals in New York State to reach the executive chefs and staff how to cook fresh and healthier foods from scratch.

Northwell Health said that Chef Bruno is the first and only Michelin-star chef hired by a health care organization in the United States.

Chef Bruno said that all Northwell Health hospitals will be serving restaurant-quality food sometime in 2018. He will also hire talented chefs from the hotel and restaurant industry.
