Melania grows in popularity as baby name

First lady Melania Trump is not only a trend-setter in her job and in fashion, she's become a trendy baby name.

Melania has leaped up the list in the Social Security Administration's annual list of the nation's top baby names.   The tribute, no doubt, comes from the star power of the first lady.  Melania jumped from 1,650 to to 930th place in 2017.  It was one of teh top five fastest-growing names.

However, there may be some downside to the name because of current politics.  One parent who named his daughter Melania said he did it because he wanted her name similar to Milan, Italy.  He says they've gotten weird looks from people because of controversy surrounding President Trump.

One name that is dropping down the list is Alexa.  That drop is attributed to the name being the word used to "wake" Amazon's AI personal assistant.  Other similar sounding names are also seeing a decline.
