Man ordered to trial in slaying at crime-ridden complex

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A man has been ordered to stand trial in the shooting death of a New York man at a crime-ridden apartment complex for low-income residents in northeastern Pennsylvania last fall.

Twenty-four-year-old Dominic Jaquariuspa Ray of Wilkes-Barre is charged in Luzerne County in the October 2016 slaying of 32-year-old Victor Grandy of Far Rockaway, New York.

Investigators said an argument at the Sherman Hills complex escalated into a shooting. Ray fled and was arrested in January in New York City.

Public defender Tom Cometa argued that prosecutors' video footage was pieced together from different angles, and trees and people obscure what exactly took place.

He said it was "questionable at best" whether his client even had a gun and also questioned whether three people seen near the victim had been identified.
