Man gets 30 years for killing ex-girlfriend during argument

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend during a dispute about their daughter has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Thirty-two-year-old Perfis Pena-Nunez, of Paterson, was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to killing 26-year-old Jackie Delarosa-Rodriguez in September 2014.

The Record reports (http://bit.ly/1WwYapL ) that Pena-Nunez told the judge he was very ashamed and didn't mean to do it. Defense attorney Felicia Murray says he wasn't thinking properly that day and regrets his actions.

Pena-Nunez went to the police and confessed after killing the woman and police found that she had been shot in the head and was dead on the garage floor.
