Man finds father's remains buried in basement
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A Long Island man whose father had gone missing more than 50 years ago discovered his remains while excavating the basement.
57-year-old Michael Carroll and his two adult sons were excavating Michael’s basement at 75 Olive St. in Lake Grove on Halloween when the sons discovered what appeared to be human remains.
The family called 911 and Suffolk County Police's homicide detectives investigated.
Carroll's parents, George and Dorothy, bought the home in 1957. Michael and his three siblings lived in the house with their parents.
George Carroll went been missing in 1961, and Dorothy Carroll died in the late 90s. Michael Carroll is the current owner of the home.
On Thursday, police announced that the remains were of George Carroll and his death has been ruled a homicide.
