Man fatally stabbed while trying to aid street attack victim

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have made an arrest in a stabbing that killed a man who tried to help another who was being attacked.

Hudson County prosecutors have charged 28-year-old Froylan Lopez of Jersey City with the murder of 26-year-old Troy Brandon.

Authorities say Brandon was trying to help another person when he was stabbed in the torso around 10:15 p.m. Saturday on Monticello Avenue in Jersey City.

Authorities say the person Brandon tried to help suffered undisclosed injuries.

Lopez is held on $1 million bail. It is not known if he has a lawyer.

The stabbing was the 23rd killing in Jersey City this year and the eighth since Nov. 12.
