Man accused of shooting at mosque put under house arrest

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man charged with firing a rifle at a mosque next to his home has been placed under house arrest.

Ted Hakey Jr. is charged with a federal hate crime and detained without bail in connection with the shooting at Baitul Aman Mosque in Meriden shortly after the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks in Paris that left 130 people dead. The mosque was empty at the time and no one was hurt.

The Hartford Courant (http://cour.at/1Z2bjUa ) reports that a federal judge on Monday released Hakey on a $400,000 real estate bond and placed him under house arrest at his mother's home in Shelton.

A lawyer for Hakey, who had been held without bail since his arrest, said his client wants to assure members of the mosque that he is not a danger.
