Mail carrier arrested for feeding dog meatballs with nails

A north Alabama mail carrier is accused of feeding a dog meatballs that contained nails.

47-year-old Susanna Dawn Burhans was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.

The U.S. Postal Service worker was arrested after a joint investigation by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Postal Service.  At least one other resident has filed a complaint but Burhan does not face additional charges at this time.

Burhan was booked into the Madison County Jail and was released about an hour later after posting $2,500 bail.

She could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
