Lowry Park Zoo leopard cubs on the move
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Lowry Park Zoo's 'leap day' leopard cubs are growing by leaps and bounds, but they're still just as cute. 'Aiya' and 'Shigu,' born back on February 29, are about ready to spend some time in the zoo's main clouded leopard habitat.
"The transition to an enclosed exhibit will allow the cubs greater independence to climb, pounce and leap in a supervised environment," a zoo spokesperson explained.
The cubs’ long-term home has not yet been determined, but for now, zoo guests can see the cubs once a day in their new location.
The zoo's animal care team is hand-rearing the pair after their birth mother became anxious and stopped caring for them.
Clouded leopards, the smallest of the big cats, are currently classified as vulnerable to extinction.
